What we paint

Painting services

One room or the whole house? We look at the surfaces, talk colors and sheen, and give you a written quote.

The St Louis Painting Company paints homes and businesses in St. Louis and nearby towns, from Clayton, University City and Maplewood to Webster Groves, Kirkwood, Florissant, Chesterfield and Ballwin. We do interior and exterior painting, cabinets, decks and fences, along with the wall repair, washing and wallpaper or texture removal that often has to happen first. We are licensed and insured. Homeowners, landlords and shop owners call us for single rooms and for whole buildings.

This is a brick city, so outside work is often about the wood on a brick house: cornices, windows, sills, doors and porches. Further out there is clapboard, aluminum and vinyl. Inside, older homes have plaster walls, tall ceilings and trim under many layers of old paint. Hot humid summers, thunderstorms and winter freeze and thaw are hard on paint here. We choose the prep, the primer and the timing of each job with those conditions in mind.

A job starts with a visit. We look at the surfaces, measure, ask what you want and send a written quote that lists the rooms or areas, the repairs, the number of coats and the colors. On the agreed day we cover and protect, do the repairs and prep, then prime and paint. We clean up at the end of each day. When the work is finished we walk it with you and fix anything you point out before we leave.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to paint a house in St. Louis?

By national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026, a whole interior costs $3,500 to $10,000 and an exterior costs $3,000 to $10,000 for an average 2,000 square foot house. Those are not our quotes. Your walls, trim and prep set the price, and we give it in writing after a free estimate.

Should I paint the brick on my St. Louis house?

If the brick is sound and has never been painted, we usually advise leaving it. Paint can trap moisture in soft old brick. Most brick homes here only need the wood trim, windows, doors and porch painted.

My house was built before 1978. Does lead paint matter?

Yes. Paid work that disturbs old paint in a pre-1978 home falls under the federal EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting rule and must follow lead-safe practices. Most homes in St. Louis are old enough for it to apply.

When is the best time to paint outside in St. Louis?

Late spring and early fall. Fall is often steadier, since spring is the wettest part of the year here. Summer work is planned around heat, sun and afternoon storms.

Do painters need a license in Missouri?

No. Missouri has no state license for painters, so check insurance and get a written contract. The St Louis Painting Company is licensed and insured.

Do you repair plaster before painting?

Yes. Patching, sanding, caulking and priming are part of the job and the quote. Cracks and failed patches in old plaster are repaired first, and larger repairs are listed in writing.
